BIG WINS AT BOTH ENDS OF LADDER

Waterside Karori have bagged a crucial three points in the Ultra Football Central league, while Napier City Rovers have moved three points clear at the top.

It was a massive game at the bottom of the table for Waterside Karori. A loss against Havelock North Wanderers would have meant they were six points adrift of their foes at the bottom as the halfway stage of the competition fast approaches.

But the hosts were able to win 4-1 following a strong surge in the final 10 minutes at Karori Park.

Luc Saker’s first-half screamer had put Karori up 1-0, and that was how the score stayed until the 81st minute when substitute Sam Collier scored a tap-in within moments of coming on. An own goal followed by a Jarrod Stant effort put the result beyond doubt before Havelock North’s Gagame Feni scored a consolation goal two minutes from fulltime.

Napier were too strong for Wellington United in their clash on Sunday, winning 3-0.

Sho Goto and Martin Bueno had them feeling good by halftime and Patryk Misik put the icing on the cake midway through the second half.

There were goals aplenty in the two post-5.30pm kickoffs on Saturday as the away teams triumphed.

Lower Hutt went over the Rimutakas to hammer Wairarapa United 5-2 after an absurd first 30 minutes.

Samuel Johnson had a brace in the first 13 minutes to move joint top of the Golden Boot standings with six, alongside Bueno and Wellington’s Calvin Harris.

Daniel Allan answered for Wairarapa in the 21st minute, but Jack Imray and Michael McCutcheon replied with goals of their own before the 28th minute was finished.

Shakille Belle then added another for the hosts one minute later to make it 4-2.

There was only one more goal in the final 60 minutes, scored by Lower Hutt’s Sekou Diane nine minutes into the second half.

The even later game saw even more goals as Stop Out stormed home over Wellington Olympic in the second half.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Olympic had two players sent off in the second 45 minutes before losing 7-2. Luis Corralles, Jerram Tuck, and Steven Gulley all bagged braces for the visitors.

The other match saw Miramar Rangers beat Western Suburbs 1-0 thanks to a Ruairi Cahill-Fluery penalty.

In the Capital Premier division, North Wellington took a massive step towards the Central League playoff with a 2-1 win over Petone. That moved them five points clear of Miramar’s reserves at the top of the table, six points clear of the nearest first teams.

The bottom of the ladder has tightened up after Kapiti Coast United grabbed their second-straight win, a 1-0 triumph over Olympic’s reserves.

That meant the bottom five of Wests’ reserves, Kapiti, Upper Hutt City, Tawa, and Olympic were separated by just two points.

Other results saw Miramar and Upper Hutt draw 2-2, Island Bay United beat Tawa 3-2, and Wests lost 2-1 to Lower Hutt’s reserves.

Knockout football got underway in women’s football on Sunday with the Kelly Cup and Executive Plate.

The two W-League teams, Wairarapa United and Western Suburbs, highlighted the gap back to the Women’s Premier League with big wins.

Wairarapa beat Stop Out, who withdrew from this year’s W-League, 13-0, while Wests beat Brooklyn Northern United 8-0.

The other two matches between WPL foes were much tighter as Waterside Karori beat Victoria University 1-0 and Petone beat Kapiti Coast United 2-1.
