EVANS AND MORRISSEY ANNOUNCE 2018 NWL SQUAD

Emma Evans and Sam Morrissey have announced their 23-player squad to take on the nation in this year’s National Women’s League. The squad is well balanced with experience in Football Fern Sarah Gregorius, combined with exciting young talents including Anna Mcphie and three current Federation Talent Centre players, as well as Tory Schiltgen from America joining the ranks. Evans was also pleased to announce the return of Football Fern Anna Green to the squad after playing for Reading F.C in the FA WSL 1 earlier this year.

“We have a good mix of youth and experience in the squad this year, and the level of commitment and tactical and technical play shown in the initial trainings has definitely given us a solid starting point” Evans commented after announcing the squad.

With 8 players retuning from the 2017 squad, and the added experience and class of Green to the mix, the team strongly believe they are in a good position to improve on the 5th place finish from their 2017 National Women’s League campaign.

For the first time in the leagues history it will move into a double round and it’s evident the changes will present new challenges to both the coaching staff and players.

“With the move to double rounds it presents huge opportunities but also huge challenges for all involved” Evans commented. “It’s an extremely exciting time for the women’s game and with the expansion of the league, it gives players the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the country for longer than ever before”.

The Capital Football National Women’s League Team will start their campaign in Christchurch against the Canterbury United Pride on September the 16th and will play six home games throughout the campaign at the Home of Football, Memorial Park, Petone.
