Temporary Dismissals (Sin Bin) Rule Introduced in Capital Football Competitions

Capital Football has introduced the Temporary Dismissals (sin bin) rule across all age groups to reduce dissent and improve the match-day experience for referees.

The sin bin rule will apply to all competitions except:

  • Men's Central League

  • Men's Central League 2

  • Women's Central League

This initiative aims to promote respect for referees and ensure a positive footballing environment.

HOW IT WORKS

Any player cautioned for dissent (Y5, Y6 or Y15) will be shown a yellow card and placed in a temporary dismissal period of 10 minutes (7 minutes for 70-minute games and 6 minutes for 60-minute games).

A player who shows dissent in the opinion of the referee, will have a yellow card shown and the referee will point to the sideline.

A period in the sin bin allows time for the individual to calm down and reflect on their behaviour. It also serves as an instant sanction for poor behaviour.

The team will not be able to substitute the player and will continue with one less player.

The player can return to their team bench for the time period but cannot interfere with play.

The referee will be the sole timekeeper of the period.

HOW CAN YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE BIN?

SHOUTING AT A REFEREE
Yelling at referees in the form of criticising, telling the referees what to do next, and being sarcastic.

QUESTIONING REFEREES ABILITY
Any public disagreement using words or gestures that question or undermine the referee's decisions.

DISSENT BY ACTION
Dissent doesn't have to be verbal – actions such as slamming the ball into the ground or sarcastically clapping a decision may result in a sin bin.
