Capital Football U14 Girls Capital Development League Announced

At the end of the 2022 season, Capital Football scoped interest from clubs in running a Girls U14's Capital Development League in 2023. Capital Football currently runs U13, U15, and U17 mixed Capital Development Leagues and were excited at the prospect of expanding this into the girls' space. As per the Capital Football Womens Strategy, a key action was to introduce this league and we are excited to announce that we will be getting it underway in 2023!

This competition is aimed towards female players seeking to play together as a team in a league with raised playing standards. The concept of the league is to create an aspirational pathway for girls in the region with competitive games and access to quality coaching environments. With this competition, we hope to bridge the gap between the Girls Only football leagues and Mixed football leagues.

  • The competition will take place on Sundays and will begin on 30 April and will run until 24 September (22 weeks).
  • The U14 Girls Capital Development Leagues (CDL) will consist of no more than 10 teams in 2023.
  • Team head coaches are required to hold at minimum, a Youth Level 2 Coaching Award or be enrolled to attend.
  • There are no homegrown requirements for the U14 Girls CDL.
  • Teams are required to run one quality training session per week, minimum.

Player eligibility:

  • Minimum player age of 12 years old as of 1 January of the current year.
  • Maximum player age of 14 years old as of 31 December of the current year.
  • Player birthyear 2009 – 2010.
  • Capital Football appreciates that this is the first year of this competition and there will be some flexibility with regards to dispensation.

The game will be played on Sundays to enable girls to participate in Saturday sports or school sports if that is their preference. The intention is to reduce the number of girls having to jump into the U18 Girls League (more social) and provide a more challenging and appropriate competition within their own age group.
