Applicants sought for Capital Football Board


With over 18,000 footballers within our Federation, Capital Football demonstrates a commitment to the wellbeing of Kiwis and the sustainability of our beautiful game.

As one of six Federations within New Zealand Football, Capital Football is responsible for the day-to-day management of our numerous football competitions, selecting and managing representative teams, providing talent pathways, recruitment and accreditation of football coaches and referees, and promoting our game to the wider community. We are also responsible for supporting our 42 affiliated clubs to thrive and grow. Capital Football’s has recently updated its strategic plan through to 2027. Our values are to act with integrity, strive for innovation and tūrangawaewae, where we strive to foster a community that provides opportunity for empowerment and connection. Our strategic goals are focussed on growing participation, developing the game by offering new and improved experiences, and ensuring the sustainability and resilience of our business.

Our Board is made up of four appointed, three elected and two co-opted members. We currently have two to three appointed vacancies to fill. This process seeks to fill those vacancies.

The Board’s priorities include supporting the Chief Executive to achieve the operational requirements underpinning our strategic plan; ensuring the sport’s financial prosperity; navigating an ever-changing environment; and guiding & enhancing the culture of football in our region.

These board roles will appeal to those wanting to be part of a sport that is dynamic and continuing our journey of achieving our full potential. It’s also a rare opportunity to join a sport that has such a close connection to the environment, as well as community wellbeing.

 

Ideal Applicant Description

We are committed to having a diverse board, so ethnic, female and younger individuals are especially encouraged to apply. The experience and knowledge we are seeking include law, accounting and human resources.

Alignment with the sport’s mission to provide, develop and nurture the future of Football in our region is required and an affinity with football is desirable but not necessary.

Personal traits of our successful board members will include:

- Understanding the difference between governance and management

- Time and genuine desire to contribute

- Self-awareness

- Culturally responsive

The role is open to individuals based in the Capital Football catchment area.

Time Commitment and Term As a guide, we expect an average time commitment of about six hours each month. Board meetings are typically held 10 times per year, are face to face, with online attendance available if required.

The initial term of the appointed role is three years.
