Capital Football welcomes Toby Wilton as Federation Development Officer – Futsal Lead

Following the announcement at the end of 2024 that Libby Trevelyan will be leaving her role as Federation Development Officer – Futsal Lead with Capital Football, we are pleased to announce that Toby Wilton will be joining to take on this role.

Despite his young age, Toby has already established an extensive futsal and football background, and now having recently completed his Bachelor in Sports Coaching at the University of Canterbury, he is ready to step into a full-time position. Toby has been a part of quality futsal and football environments in both Christchurch and Wellington gaining excellent experience. Toby understands the futsal landscape and he is looking forward to getting involved with the local community, “having grown up in Wellington and been involved in futsal for many years as a player, coach, and referee, I’m excited to step into this role and contribute to the continued growth of futsal in the Capital region. Libby has done an outstanding job over the past five years, and I look forward to building on that foundation to further develop opportunities for players, coaches, and referees across the game."

Whilst we welcome Toby, we are sad to have to say goodbye to Libby, who has done a tremendous job further elevating futsal in the Capital Football region. The growth of futsal has been exponential, and Libby, with no background in the game prior to joining Capital Football has excelled in continuing to support and grow the game year on year. Libby reflected on her time, “After four great years with Capital Football, I’m thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the futsal community in Wellington. It has been a challenging yet rewarding experience, and I’ve appreciated the support from everyone as we’ve worked to grow the game. A big thank you to all who’ve been involved during my time here. I wish Toby all the best as he takes on his new role.”

Federation Development Manager, Steeve Sharpe commented, “Capital Football is proud to be the leading futsal region in the country and a huge reason for this is the work Libby has put in place and delivered. She has shown her true care for the game but most importantly the people at the centre of it involved in the delivery; the players, coaches, referees, and anybody who makes futsal tick. Whilst at the same time being sorry that Libby is moving on, we are excited to welcome Toby who has already shown he’ll pick up from where Libby has left the game in a particularly strong place.”

Toby will join Capital Football on Monday 14th April 2025 for an extensive handover period conducted with Libby who leaves us on Friday 2nd May 2025.
