Capital Football | Smith to take new role in 2021

Capital Football congratulate Sam Smith in moving on to a new role with Waterside Karori as the Mens 1st Team Head Coach & Director of Coaching. Sam has been Federation Development Officer – Coach Education for the previous couple of years, delivering a fine job in successfully progressing this key area.

Steeve Sharpe, Capital Football’s Federation Development Manager, was pleased for Sam’s opportunity and expressed gratitude for his efforts this past two years.

“The opportunity for him to move into a role where he is primarily coaching is one which we understand will be significantly appealing for Sam and we wish him all the best with this next endeavour.”

Coach education has continued to grow under Sam’s leadership of the portfolio, most notably with a significant increase in the percentage of candidates successfully passing the OFC/NZF C Licence Coaching Award, successful implementation of the new Youth Level Two Coaching Award, and the roll out of online learning opportunities.

Steeve explains further the impact Sam has had on coach education in the Capital Football region.

“Increasing the number of qualified OFC/NZF C Licence qualified coaches within the region has been a key target of Capital Football, particularly with the increased desire for improved club capability. Sam has undoubtedly been a significant driving force behind this happening, working in a professional yet personable manner to help candidates achieve successful assessments. Capital Football prides itself on the quality of the experience candidates receive through coach education and we thank Sam for ensuring that this has been the case throughout his time in the role. Although disappointed to lose Sam as a staff member, we are delighted that he will remain locally within football and will continue to remain a key figure in the coach education space.”

Sam’s last day with Capital Football is Friday 22nd January 2021, following which any queries regarding coach education can be made to Steeve Sharpe, steeve@capitalfootball.org.nz
